Temporary Housing: The Military does not supply  a Temporary Lodging facility.  For those who decide to purchase a home and who need temporary housing until the deal closes or find that they need more time to find a home to rent there are several options. Some hotels may be willing to give you a special monthly rate. While still a costly option, it is cheaper than staying in the hotel on a daily or weekly basis. Some apartment buildings are also sometimes also willing to rent studio or small apartments on a short term basis. Some may even be able to provide furnished units; however, should you only be able to find an unfurnished unit, do not be discouraged. Talk to your sponsor or the orderly room about borrowing furniture, dishes, cooking utensils and bedding through the loan closet. Also, some lab employees may also be willing to lend you a bed or furniture.

Housing: It can be difficult to find housing in the area so start looking in advance of your move and have your sponsor help you. The lists below are by no means complete listing of housing in the Rome area. Check the newspapers for listings and the phone book for real estate agents. Though we have focused here on the Rome area, many employees choose to live in the greater Rome/Oneida/Utica area in places like Lee Center, Westmoreland, Oriskany, Clinton, New Hartford, Utica and Oneida. You may also find that living in Syracuse is more to your liking. So take some time and drive around the area to see your options.
